I sat the IELTS exam in December and again in February, and again in May. I needed Band 7.0 in every skill. 

Each time my speaking and listening marks improved.  By May I had 7.0 for speaking and 7.0 for listening.  But I couldn’t get higher than 6.5 for reading or writing. 

I bought another IELTS text book.  I studied at night and all day on Sundays.  I was so frustrated about working as a nurse aide, when my qualifications had already been approved by the Nursing Council.  Some of the people I was working with in the same ward knew less about nursing than I did – but they were being paid more. All I  needed  was to get Band 7.0 for each subject in IELTS to become a fully registered nurse. 

I sat the exam again in July.  I tried really, really hard. 

My result came back.  My speaking had improved to 7.5. My reading had gone up to 7.0. My listening had stayed at 7.0.  But my writing score had gone down to 6.0.  I cried because I was so disappointed.
