"If you're coming to New Zealand for a working
holiday, you've chosen well. There is a high employment rate, the highest for
years. So it's a great time to come. We have shortages in some industries*. If
you have skills in one of these industries you'll be able to look for skilled
work. But remember that you do need a good standard of English for most
skilled jobs. English language ability is often the biggest barrier for people
trying to find employment in New Zealand." New Zealand Immigration Service,
April 2005
*Fields with shortages include:
construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical trades, engineering,
boat-building, Computing/IT, nursing, agriculture, hospitality and many more.
