How many students are there in one class?
Usually 8 or 9. The maximum class size is 12. What nationality are the students? The study abroad students are from lots of different countries Japan, Tahiti, Korea, China, Argentina, Germany, and Indonesia. But they are all fans of our English-only rule. So theyll talk to you in English. And if two students are from France, theyll talk to each other in English. Where can I stay? Most of our students start off with homestay. It's a great way to help them to learn the English language. After theyve had time to settle in and make a new circle of friends, many of them join a flatting (apartment) group. But some choose to stay on in homestay. Who will meet me at the airport? Either a member of our staff or a delegated transfer service will meet you at the airport. They will have a big lemon sign with your name on it. Just look for the lemon. What if I get lost on my first day at school? On your first day, your homestay family will bring you to the school. They may come on the bus with you. If you are not in homestay, you will have a map that shows you how to find the school (its in the middle of Aucklands main street, so its very easy to find.) And youll have a phone card. If you have any problem, youll phone us, and one of our staff will come to help you find the way. What will happen on my first day at school? You will come to school a little early with your homestay family. We will give you a warm welcome. Youll have a placement test to make sure you are placed in the right English language class level. Well take you on a quick orientation tour. Youll receive a pack of orientation materials. Then it will be time to meet your new study abroad classmates.
What are New Zealand homestay families like? New Zealand people love to meet study abroad people from oveseas. You will find our homestay families kind and warm. They will talk to you and make you welcome. What are the teachers like? Our teachers have the English language as their first language. Most of them are New Zealand born. They have special qualifications for teaching the English language as a second language. They are skilled in the latest teaching philosophies and techniques. But most importantly of all, they are people who love teaching and love welcoming new study abroad students to their classes. How much is the New Zealand dollar? As a rough guide, the New Zealand dollar is worth around US$.70 or 700 Yen. But our currency converter will give you a much more accurate idea. How much does it cost to live in New Zealand? The cost of living compares favourably with most of Europe and most developed Asian countries. As a rule of thumb, a big Mac costs NZ$4.35. What sort of visa do I need? You can study in New Zealand on a student visa, a visitor visa (up to 12 weeks) and a working holiday visa (up to 12 weeks). Can I get a part-time job? If you have a working holiday visa, you can. But you cannot work with a visitor visa or a student visa. Which countries have working holiday visa arrangements with New Zealand? Working Holiday Country List How long does it take to get a visa? As long as your documentation is all present and valid, obtaining a visa should be fairly easy. Most New Zealand embassies are able to issue a visa within 14 working days or less. Which countries are able to issue visitor visa (visa waiver countries) Visa Free Countries Do I need insurance? Yes, you do. If you dont have insurance, we will arrange it for you. Are the seasons really opposite those in the northern hemisphere? They certainly are. Is it snowing where you are? Then youll find New Zealanders at the beach. Are you having a sweltering summer? Well be skiing. Are your autumn leaves turning red and gold? That means our cherry blossoms are at their best. |
