A TESOL Certificate in Aucklandl, New Zealand - in just 5 weeks

What does "TESOL" mean?

TESOL stands for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. A TESOL teacher teaches children or adults whose first language is not English and introduces them to the English language.

What's different about the Auckland English Academy's English Instructor TESOL programme?

It's designed for teachers who plan to teach English, not to adults, but to children aged 3 years to 13 years.

  • It's practical - full of valuable strategies for preparing lessons, developing materials, interacting with children and other teachers.
  • It's hands-on and active - lots of games, songs and practical assignments.
  • It's Government-approved - by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
  • It includes regular visits to New Zealand early childhood centers and schools.
  • It's short  - just five weeks.
  • And it's fun!
Exhausting, but fun!¨ our TESOL graduates tell us.

Do I have to be a qualified teacher to apply for the English Instructor TESOL course?

No, you don't. You need to have a good general education, but you are not required to have a university degree or a teacher's diploma. What you do need is a keen interest in working with children, and a commitment to some hard work for the five weeks of the TESOL course.

What sorts of things can I do if I have the English Instructor TESOL Certificate

  • You can combine it with a formal teaching qualification and become an English language teacher in a regular school.
  • Or, without additional training, you may be eligible to work as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), team-teaching with the home room teachers.
  • You can apply for work at an English language school in your own country.
  • You can teach children in a cram-school or coaching school.
  • You can become an English-language tutor, taking children as your own private pupils.
  • You can (when you¡¦re ready!) teach English to your own children.

It sounds great. But I'm not sure that my English is fluent enough ...

A big component of the TESOL Certificate course is intensive work on your own English language pronunciation, listening and speaking. Even though your level might not be high enough at the start of the course, after five weeks in New Zealand you'll be amazed at your improvement. One of the results all of our trainees comment on is their increased level of confidence  - confidence in speaking English, and also confidence in themselves.

We'll also give you an English level test at the start of the course. If your level is truly too low, we'll probably recommend some weeks of intensive English before you join the TESOL course. Our accredited agents in some countries are also authorized to administer our Entry Level test. So it may be possible for you to take the test before you commit yourself to the TESOL course.

When can I join a English Instructor TESOL course?

A new course starts almost every month. Contact us today for the exact start dates.
